It's a super complicated question. There is no simple answer. It varies a lot according to your personal situation, what do you want to achieve in life, and what are you welling to sacrifice.
Assume you're a new graduate out of school and just joined such a company, here are somethings to consider:
1) Do not be envy of other people, especially those people from overseas. 5-10 times difference is the about the difference between US salary and Chinese salary. From what I heard, this kind of high pay is only for a few years. Gradually, they will move people to domestic pay scale. If company is willing to pay such a higher salary to attract those people, there should be some special skill sets in them the company values. Make them your friend, try to learn as much as possible from them, instead of distance yourself from them.
2) Do not compare people at director or GM level. Those are special people. They deserve to be paid lots of money. I think they're actually under-paid. They have a huge responsibilities on their shoulders.
3) If you're new to such a company, the first stage is try to be stable, that is to perform at or above your expected performance level for your level. You need to get familiar with company culture, familiar with your technology areas, faimilar with tool sets, improve your communication skill, improve your personal skill, etc. If you can get a mentor inside your company, get a mentor.
4) Once you're stable, then you should leave some energy and time to take care of some personal life stuff, like housing, girl friend/wife, kid, investment, hobby, ...
5) After that, you should look at how to grow yourself career wise. If you want to get promotions, you need to look at how to perform at higher level, how to lead without authority, how to make a bigger influence, how to avoid problems earlier. You may want to change to another area, another division, or another dicipline, or work on a Mba degree.
6) If you want to be a big boss some day, do not work on a single dicipline only and for too long. For example, it may be a good idea to switch to be a PM for a few years.
