In the US, the DOD no longer mandates use of CMMI as a "minimum pre-qualification", but it does view CMMI as a +1 benefit in offerors' proposals. In addition, most (if not all) of the "big integrators", defense, infrastructure and aerospace firms who use CMMI continue to use and expect the use of CMMI by their subcontractors. In short, CMMI is far from dead, and, with new initiatives (in content and appraisal approaches) under way and planned for at the CMMI Institute, the relevance and applicability of CMMI to the broader market is expected to pick up again over the coming years.
