type root password and you are supposed to get a shell, then run fsck and see if it could fix any file system error. It's highly unlikely that a fresh installation could have any file system corruption. Are you sure you have a success on the installation?
If so, ur hard disk might not be in good shape. You will have to run a hard disk check if it's available through bios or ur hard disk controller...
