NMapWin version 1.2.12 Readme File NMapWin is a native Windows/2000/XP front-end for nmap. All features of nmap version 2.54beta36 have been incorporated into a fully Windows2000 compliant application. The actual nmap process is started in the background with all output re- directed into NMapWin. This makes NMapWin independent of the namp release. For more information on nmap visit: http://www.insecure.org NMapWin as well as nmap are using the Windows Packet Capture Library Win- Pcap. For more information on WinPcap see: http://netgroup-serv.polito.it/winpcap/ NMapWin comes with a compiled version of WinPcap v2.3. In case WinPcap is already installed skip the installation of winpcap. In this case please installWinPCap before you install NMapWin. Included in the distribution is WinPCap 2.3. (directory WinPCap). Execute winpcap_2.3 which will guide you throught the rest of the installation procedure. For more information about WinPCap see: http://netgroup-serv.polito.it/winpcap/ To check whether the WinPcap is correctly installed, you can open Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, then choose System Tools, System Information, Software Environment, Drivers. File NPF should appear there. If you launched a WinPcap application previously, it should appear as running . Uninstalling older versions of WinPcap: ======================================= WinPcap 2.1 or newer: go to the control-panel, then open the "add/remove programs" applet. If WinPcap is present in your system, an entry called "WinPcap" will be present. Double-click on it to uninstall WinPcap. WinPcap 2.02 or older: go to the control-panel, then open the "Network" applet. If WinPcap is present in your system, an entry called "Packet Capture Driver" will be lis- ted (in Windows NT you have to choose the "Services" tab). Select it and press "Remove" to uninstall WinPcap. To be absolutely sure that WinPcap has been installed, please look at your system folder: you should find files called packet.* and wpcap.dll. Please check the file dates: these should be compatible with the WinPcap release dates. IMPORTANT NOTE: sometimes, when uninstalling WinPcap version 2.02 or older from the control panel s network applet in Windows 95/58, the file Windows Packet.dll is not deleted. You must delete this file manually, otherwise version 2.1 will not work properly and could cause system crashes.
