I. Purpose and Background of the Survey

Our team has developed a second-hand trading platform based on the WeChat Mini Program, dedicated to creating a convenient and secure environment for college students engaged in second-hand transactions. The development of this platform aims to address some pain points of traditional second-hand trading platforms, such as lack of transparency, insecure transactions, and weak targeting. To better understand user usage and opinions regarding our platform or traditional trading platforms, we conducted a user usage survey.

Through this survey, we aim to gather feedback on the following core issues:
User Needs:
Understand users' real needs in second-hand transactions, including the types of items they trade, frequency of transactions, and problems encountered during the trading process.
Example survey questions:

  • What types of items do you usually trade on the platform?
  • How often do you use the platform for transactions each week?
  • What problems have you encountered while using the platform for transactions?

User Experience:
Investigate trial users' satisfaction with the platform's user experience, improvement suggestions, and their expectations for the platform's future development.
Example survey questions:

  • How satisfied are you with the current user experience on the platform?
  • In what aspects do you think the platform needs improvement?
  • What are your expectations for the platform's future development?

II. Research Overview

1. Scope and Participants of the Survey
The main scope of this survey is Fuzhou University, and our target participants are current students, including both undergraduates and postgraduates. We primarily focused on students who have registered and used our platform to obtain direct feedback on their user experience. In addition to trial users, we also conducted a survey of potential users who may use our platform in the future to understand their expectations and needs.

2. Timing and Methods of the Survey
The survey took place from December 8th to 14th, 2023. To ensure the accuracy and representativeness of the data, our primary data collection methods included online questionnaire surveys and a small number of user interviews. Users were asked to rate the functionality of specific modules to facilitate the team's assessment of product quality.

Online Questionnaire:
An online questionnaire survey is an efficient and scalable data collection method. Through a detailed questionnaire, covering users' basic information, shopping habits, user experience, satisfaction evaluation, and more, we were able to invite a wide range of users to participate in the survey and collect a large amount of quantitative data.

User Interviews:
In addition to the online questionnaire survey, we conducted user interviews to obtain more in-depth data. User interviews involved face-to-face communication with users to delve into various aspects of their information, such as user experience, shopping psychology, pain points, and suggestions. Interviews were conducted with a sample of students from our surroundings.

III. Overview of User Demographics and Usage Characteristics

1. User Demographics
We gathered a wealth of basic information about users, including but not limited to the following:
Grade Distribution:
We collected feedback from students in different grades, discovering that the main users include freshmen to graduate students, with undergraduates being the majority.
Major Distribution:
Users come from various academic backgrounds, covering different majors from engineering to literature, management, and beyond.
Usage Frequency:
We gained an understanding of platform usage frequency among different user groups, including high-frequency and low-frequency users.

2. User Usage Characteristics
Shopping Habits:
Users tend to prefer online shopping, and the platform's convenience, variety, and targeted products are the main reasons for choosing this platform. Most users access the shopping platform via mobile devices and are inclined to purchase a range of items, including study materials, learning tools, electronic products, daily necessities, and electric bikes, among others.
Usage Preferences:
Users are concerned about product quality and cost-effectiveness, having high expectations for product quality and practicality. They expect a simple and intuitive interface, efficient search functionality, and personalized services such as recommendations and coupons.

IV. User Satisfaction Survey Results

Scores and Analysis of Various Indicators

  1. Interface Design (7.5):
    Regarding the platform's interface design, users generally find it somewhat complex and hope for simplification to enhance user-friendliness.

  2. Search Functionality (7.8):
    Users report occasional inaccuracies or low relevance in search results, indicating the need for further optimization of the search algorithm to improve result accuracy and quality.

  3. Purchase Satisfaction (7.9):
    Due to the platform's university student authentication and high payment security, users generally feel they can purchase items or services at reasonable and discounted prices that meet their needs.

  4. Customer Service (8.3):
    Users generally perceive the customer service attitude as good, feeling that their needs are respected, and issues are actively understood and addressed.

  5. Product Innovation (7.1):
    Users believe that the overall creativity of the second-hand trading platform is average, but the platform's focus on the university campus setting is a highlight for MuYu.

  • Overall User Experience Composite Rating: 7.8 —— 7.9

V. Conclusions and Recommendations

Based on the survey results, our team has found that the user base of the MuYu Campus Second-hand Trading Platform primarily consists of undergraduate to graduate students, with undergraduates being the majority. Users have a high demand for the MuYu platform, and there is a high overall approval of our platform. However, there is dissatisfaction with the interface design, interaction, and search functionality. In the future, our team will focus on improving the technical aspects of the platform, enhancing interface design, improving search functionality, and introducing or innovating specific projects and activities as needed.
