关于查找文件

我想实现在一个对话框中单击一个按纽控件就能通过一个进度条来显示查找某一种格式文件的过程，
比如（.txt文件），找到以后把他列在对话框中。不知道该怎么去动手，是不是要计算找到文件的个数和大小，然后才能显示进度条的过程啊。。

微软在搜索文件的时候，让进度条不停循环滚动，应该也是无法确定真正需要的时间。
