水晶crystal report application server的理解

我有个VB项目涉及到用crytal report 生成报表,报表内容并不复杂,公司里也有一部crystal report application server.
我想请问一下,在什么情况下我应该用RAS生成报表,它和普通的RPT生成报表相比更能为我带来什么,而RAS自带的用户手册内容极其贫乏,从哪儿能找到更多使用RAS的资料,GOOGLE我搜过了,不多.
